Buffalo Gun Club Youth Program (BGCYP)

 

BGCYP is a coaching-intensive program focused on fundamentals, fun, and competition, and serves as the training program for students interested in potentially joining the Buffalo High School Trapshooting Team.

 

When it rains it POURS--and this year's BGCYP season is off to a wet start.

BGCYP is CANCELLED for tonight (Tuesday, June 4th) due to incoming weather.....and the fact that your head coaches don't like what the humidity does to their hair, haha! See you all next week!

2024 Season Information:

UPDATED REGISTRATION DATES:

Returning Shooters - If you have been in the program previously register at this time. if you have a sibling that is going to join they can also register at this time

May 13Th-17th, opens at 12:00pm - and closes 11:59pm

New Shooters - If you have not been in the program previously.

May 18Th-26th, opens at 12:00pm - and closes 11:59pm

Thank you for your patience regarding the delayed registration dates—we are dealing with other situations that, at this time, take precedence. Registration will go forward starting May 13th at noon!

  • Priority is given to those students living or attending schools in the BHM School District

  • Cost for athletes shooting 1 box = $135 (8 weeks of instruction: shells, rounds, safety equipment, T-shirt, and End of Year Party)

    • We will limit New Shooters to 1 box

  • Cost for athletes shooting 2 boxes = $215 (8 weeks of instruction: shells, rounds, safety equipment, T-shirt, and End of Year Party)

    • We only recommend 2 boxes for older the older kids or kids who have had prior shooting experience

in 2024:

  • First time athletes participating in the 2024 Buffalo Gun Club Youth Program are going to be shooting 1 box (25 shells) during their 45 minute time slot for shooting each evening. This change was necessary to accommodate as many shooters as possible with the overwhelming number of athletes who want to participate. 

  • Returning Athletes participating in the 2024 Buffalo Gun Club Youth Program will have the option for shooting 1 or 2 boxes (25-50 shells) during their 45 minute time slot for shooting each evening.

  • Wes Gentry and Wade Johnson will be serving as Head Coaches for the 2024 season along with help from many returning coaches.


    Buffalo Gun Club Youth Program 2024:

    • Dates: Tuesdays (May 28-July 16, 2024)

    • Location: Buffalo Gun Club (802 Hwy 55 E. Buffalo, MN 55313)

    • Time: 4:30 pm-7:30 pm

    • Cost: $135/participant Shooting 1 box of shells

    • Cost: $215/participant Shooting 2 box of shells

    • Age: 6th-8th students enrolled at BCMS, StFX, or Homeschooled in the BHM Area

      • We also accept High School Students 9th-11th who want to be able to join the High School Spring Team the following year. Shooting in the Youth Program or the High School Fall Program is a prerequisite to joining the High School Spring Team

    • Team:  30 shooters maximum, we will have a waiting list.

    • Sign-up: Returning Shooters Online registration begins Monday, May 13th and ends Saturday, May 18th at www.BGCYP.com

    • Sign-up: New Shooters Online registration begins Monday, May 18th and ends Saturday, May 26th at www.BGCYP.com

    • Safety Meeting: A required safety meeting will be held May 28rd in person at the Wright County Historical Society. At least one parent or guardian and the athlete must attend this safety meeting to be eligible to shoot in the program.

    • Payment: Please do not pay the BGCYP Fee until you receive an email confirming your registration from Wes Gentry ,Wade Johnson or Sally Stevens

*** Monday June 3rd, 6:00-7:30 PM Gun Fit @ Buffalo Gun Club for all shooters - If you are planning on using your own gun please bring it so we can verify gun fit and we can verify the functional safety of the firearm. If you don’t have a gun, no worries! we have many club guns for use.

One season of BGCYP is required for anyone interested in joining the Buffalo High School Trapshooting Team, therefore first priority for the 30 spots available will be given to 6th grade & up students residing or attending school in Buffalo-Hanover-Montrose (BHM) school district. Any remaining spots not taken by BHM students will be filled by out-of-district registrants in chronological order of online registration received.  

BGCYP is an 8-week, coaching-intensive program, Tuesdays between 4:30-7:30pm, focusing on trapshooting fundamentals, with the opportunity for participants to compete at the Minnesota Trapshooting Association’s Youth Day on Tuesday, June 25th 2024 in Alexandria, MN! Cost is $TBD/participant for rounds, shells, basic safety equipment and more.
